Pianist Rina Kurata brings her distinctive approach to Tokyo this November, presenting a thoughtfully structured program that examines classical repertoire through an interconnected narrative. For international visitors traveling to Japan, securing seats for specialized classical concerts can often be complicated by domestic ticketing restrictions. Jasumo Tickets bridges this gap, allowing music lovers from overseas to attend exceptional performances in Tokyo without navigating Japanese-language systems.
Rina Kurata graduated from the piano department of Toho Gakuen University before moving to France, where she completed her master’s degree in piano at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Her international credentials include winning third prize at the Jean Françaix International Piano Competition, first prize in the university division of the Chopin International Piano Competition in Asia, and the Chopin Society Prize. She performs extensively across France and Europe, with appearances at the La Roque d’Anthéron International Piano Festival, recitals organized by the Chopin Society Paris, and broadcasts on Radio France. In 2025, she released her debut album “Daydream,” compiled from live recordings of five concerts to high critical acclaim. Alongside her active solo and chamber music career, she serves as a creative partner at Kanack Hall in Yokohama City.
This recital centers around the twelve pieces of Debussy’s Preludes, Book 1, interwoven with works by Rameau, Bach-Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Albéniz, Satie, Ladmireau, and Séverac. Rather than performing individual pieces in isolation, Kurata conceives the entire program as a single continuous work, building a narrative through the transitions between different eras and geographical origins. Listeners can expect to hear well-known pieces such as “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair” and “The Sunken Cathedral” alongside contrasting compositions from various traditions. This arrangement highlights subtle resonances between different musical landscapes, moving deliberately from stillness to dynamism, light to shadow, and twilight to the west wind.
Attending a classical music recital in Tokyo provides an intimate encounter with world-class artistry in acoustically refined venues. Rina Kurata’s conceptual programming invites listeners to hear familiar Debussy repertoire in a completely new light, surrounded by an appreciative local audience. Experiencing this live performance adds a memorable cultural dimension to any itinerary in Japan.
